C12S04 Genesis of the Daleks
Synopsis
The Doctor's own people — the Time Lords — have foreseen a time in which the Daleks dominate all other lifeforms in the universe. So disturbing is this possibility, that they break their own Laws of Time in an attempt to change the future. And who better to send on this quest than their own renegade number — the Doctor.
Unwillingly transported into the fields and trenches of a battle-exhausted Skaro, the Doctor must face his most dangerous mission ever - to prevent the Daleks from ever being created.
Cover notes
The Doctor's iconic enemies, the Daleks, have been inextricably linked to Doctor Who almost since its inception. After each story they were definitively killed, and yet the metal monsters always found a way to return. Genesis of the Daleks was Terry Nation's third Dalek story in as many years, and marked the peak of the mini-revival of Dalekmania. Having found himself challenged to write something new and more original than the Dalek stories of old, Nation went back to basics. The Daleks were originally born out of his fears and memories of the Second World War as a child, and Nation used the Nazis as a basis for the Daleks' fictional creation. With the character of Davros — superbly portrayed by Michael Wisher — as its crowning glory, Genesis of the Daleks must go down as one of the all-time classics of Doctor Who.
